Vitamin M, represents me, Maggie Sommers, MS, RD.
I currently work as the Senior Director of Food and Nutrition at Beth K. Johnson’s Food Directions LLC. Together we provide strategic counsel in the areas of agriculture, food safety, and nutrition to a variety of clients.
Until May of this year, I worked as a Senior Account Executive supporting Edelman’s growing nutrition and food policy and promotion activities. Prior to this role I worked at the National Restaurant Association (NRA) where I maintained issue expertise for their Food and Healthy Living program at Federal, state and regulatory levels and communicated the NRA’s position on emerging nutrition public policy issues to key stakeholders.
I received my BS in health and sports studies at Miami University (Ohio) in 2007, completed my dietetic internship at Loyola University (Chicago) in 2009 and earned a Master’s of Science in the Dietetics program at Loyola in 2010.
I am a member of the American Dietetic Association, the Food & Culinary Professionals Dietetic Practice Group, and D.C. Metro Area Dietetic Association. I participate as an Advisory Council member for Common Threads, a program focused on teaching low-income children to cook wholesome and affordable meals to prevent childhood obesity (please contact me if you want to get involved, too!). Wow, I always thought that if I read a blog it would be about buffalo wings or penguins doing gymnastics or something but this is far better. This blog not only dictates my eating habits but continuously has me yearning for more tips. I can’t wait for my next dose of Vitamin M!
